Swisspower Green Gas AG

Swisspower Green Gas AG is a renewable gas procurement company established by eight Swiss municipal utilities. It aims to unlock untapped potentials for the production of renewable gas, thereby providing a sustainable contribution to decarbonising the supply of energy and meeting Switzerland’s climate protection goals.

Renewable gas plays an important role on the path toward a fully renewable and climate-neutral energy supply. By 2030, 30% of gas sales on the thermal energy market are to be renewable. Swisspower Green Gas AG contributes to the concrete implementation of this target set by the Swiss gas sector, thereby providing a major contribution to an environmentally sound gas supply, to Switzerland’s net zero carbon emissions target by 2050, and to the Swisspower utilities’ Masterplan 2050.

Keeping procurement chains short

Swisspower Green Gas AG operates on the gas market on behalf of its shareholders. It buys and sells renewable gas as well as certificates, manages procurement and sales portfolios, and supports utility companies in taking stakes in production facilities in Switzerland and abroad.
It strives to keep procurement chains short: as much as possible, supply agreements are concluded directly with producers.

Political dimension

A key requisite for raising the share of renewable gas in Switzerland is its exemption from the CO2 levy. To this end, tamper-proof processes must be ensured throughout the supply chain in order to prevent the double sale of the environmental value added.
